My Computer keeps turning off and restarting. Why?

Your computer is probably getting the dreaded Blue Screen of Death (BSOD).

To see if that is the case:

1. Right Click on My Computer and click on properties

2. In the advance tab under Startup and Recovery, click settings

3. Untick the box that says Automatic Restart under System Failure.

 

How to Change Default File Types

If for some reason a Word document does not open up in MS Word or a MP3 file opens in Windows Media Play and you want it to open up in iTunes or Winamp, you may need to change your default file types to open in different programs. To do this, follow the below guide.

1. Open up My Computer or My Documents

2. Click on Tools and click on Folder Options

3. Click on the File Types tab and find the file type you want to change in the list. For example Doc, Docx, MP3.

4. Highlight the file type and click on change.

5. Find the program you wish to automatically open when you click on a file of that type to open. If it is not in the list, click on Browse and search for it in Program Files.

Search for Interesting, unprotected files

You can easily find unprotected files by simply doing some Google Searches for web directories that do not have a default index file.

With these directories, you can find some interesting and unprotected files like videos, swf files and music. So here’s a few tips on how to find such files.

To find unprotected directories just Google Search

-inurl(html|htm|php) intitle:”index of” +”last modified” +”parent directory” +description +size

This will find most unprotected directories.

If your only looking for video’s, search for:

-inurl:(htm|html|php) intitle:”index of” +”last modified” +”parent directory” +description +size +(wmv|avi)

And for music,

If you have ever formatted your PC, you know that it takes time re-downloading software and installing, but the Smart Installer pack has a whole bunch of software that it installs at once. You possible don’t want all that software, but some are very useful.

So now you can save time installing software a fresh install.

How to check your proxy settings in Firefox

If your having troubles connecting to the internet in Firefox, your proxy settings maybe incorrect.

To check your settings, follow this guide.

1. In Firefox, click on Tools –> Options.

2. In the advance section, click on the Network Tab

3. Under Connection, click on settings.

 

How to remove a Virus

First of all, how do you get a virus?

You can get a virus in a number of different ways.

  • Installing untrusted programs
  • Surfing untrusted (possibly adult) websites
  • Networking with other infected computers
  • Floppy disks
  • Downloading from Peer to Peer Networks

How to Easily Burn Data CD in Windows XP

If you want to burn some data to a CD, maybe important documents or your pictures, Windows XP as an easy way to do it.

1. Open up My Computer, click on your CD drive.

2. Copy files into the folder

To do this, either drag files from other folders into their, are use the copy and paste command by right clicking on the file you wish to copy, click copy, then in the folder you want to paste (in this case the CD drive), right click and go paste. Alternatively you can use control + c for copy and control + v for paste.

Have you Forgot your Windows XP Password

If you're someone who sets passwords on your computer and seem to have forgotten it and you can’t log back into your computer, below are some ways that you can try to reset your password.

Alt Control Delete at Windows Welcome Screen

If you see the welcome screen, you can try pressing alt control delete twice which will show you a screen where you can input a user name and password. In the username box type “administrator” and  in the password box, leave it blank.

When installing Windows XP on the computer, and the administrator password was not set, you may be able to access your computer through the default administrator account. You can then go into control panel and change your user account password.
